The Bucks had their first winning season since the 2009-’10 season and only the second time over 500 since 2003. A huge part of this successful season: rookie, second-round pick, Malcom Brogdon. Brogdon, aka The President, should be the 2017 NBA Rookie of the Year.
Over the year Brogdon averaged 10.2 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1 steal a game. He also managed to shoot 45% from the field and over 40% from three, which lead all rookies. Although these offensive numbers are impressive for a rookie, Brogdon himself considers himself a defensive minded player. He often guarded the other teams best player and helped the Bucks win several games with his big D. He was also the only rookie to notch a triple double.
The other guys in contention are Joel Embiid and Dario Saric. We can throw out Embiid right away. Sure he put up great numbers when he played, but the dude only played 31 games! Saric had a nice season, averaging 13 pt/6 rb/2 ast. But, he only starting putting up relevant numbers after the epitome of white basketball, Ersan Ilyasova left Philadelphia. Brogdon put up those numbers consistently throughout the year. Brogdon had far more of an impact defensively and creating shots for his teammates, with his ability to drive the basketball.
This dude deserves the award. Not only because he had a great year on the court, but also based off the type of guy he is. The Bucks tried to make a rookie of the year campaign for Brogdon by putting his face on dollar bill (because his nickname is the President). Instead, he told the Bucks to donate the money to charity. Since he sacrificed and didn’t campaign for the ROY award, I wanted to, which is the purpose of this article. So please share for the President’s sake and thank you for reading.
Lastly, can we just take a second to notice how much Brogdon looks and sounds like Obama.
