Intro to Mitchtern
BSHW is boomin, and I am very excited to be a part of this team. This is a great opportunity to get my foot in the door as far as sports writing goes as well as sports media. BSHW is about to take off and I’m blessed to be along for the ride.
Most of you may be familiar with who I am, but for those who don’t, listen up. My name is Mitch Meyer, but I might be referred to as “Mitchtern” or “Mitch Lahey” on here. Apparently I’m an intern here which kind of doesn’t make sense, because I have all the same privileges as everybody else. That being said, I’m not going to complain.
I first heard about BSHW when the guys came up with the idea to put our writings together (this passed fall) and start making podcasts as well. We didn’t really end up doing anything with it and the idea kind of fell to the wayside. Fast forward to December and the whole gang is back home from college and the idea of BSHW came up again. I absolutely loved the idea, but I was leaving January 4th to start my training with the US Army, so I had to push BSHW to the side because I would have no contact with the real world (other than letters) for the next 4 months. I was pretty bummed out about it because my best friends were starting this super cool thing and I wasn’t going to be able to be a part of it. I was there the day Connor and Sonny recorded the first podcast and I was pretty jealous and I really wanted in, although I knew I wouldn’t be able to. Ten weeks later I graduated Army Basic Combat training and one of the first things I did was hit up my boys. BSHW was coming into it’s own and I had thought about BSHW throughout the ten weeks I was away. Part of what sucked about being away is that I missed the entire end of the NFL season, along with the NFL Playoffs/Super Bowl, as well as the majority of the NBA season. We got no news about sports or anything while I was at Basic. I have to give a quick shoutout to my girl, because while I was away she mailed a bunch of articles on the Packers and gave me all the NFL scores, and she even gave me a March Madness preview that came with Badger stats. So that made my time away better, S/O to Kate because she’s the best.
Fast forward another six weeks, and I’m the picked up off the waiver wire. I’m hired as the Mitchtern. Throughout the six weeks of AIT (advanced initial training, or job specific training) I kept badgering my boys about letting me part of BSHW. I figured they’d let me in but still was nervous. They ended up signing me to a big league deal. That’s my story on getting into BSHW but I’ll give you a little insight to me and my life.
I’ve always played sports growing up and have always excelled when it came to things of that nature. Got recruited to play DIII college football and decided to take my mediocre talents to University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. I got to Point and made the decision to greyshirt for my freshman year and make a real run at things in spring ball. I made the team out of spring ball and was in a real good spot going into the fall. I was super excited to get back into the game the following fall, I was super excited to go back to school in the fall and play real time again. Then came time to pay for school. I had to sign for a loan for $10,000, and I was so confused and really just not sure how to move forward in life without much debt. I heard about the US Army National Guard and found out that the Guard would pay for my education without having to go active duty. So I signed my happy ass up. I love this country a hell of a lot more than the average joe, and I’d absolutely give my life in defense of any American. A question I get about the Guard pretty often is if I ever would have to go over seas and fight, and the answer to that is absolutely yes. To be honest I’d say I’ll probably go over seas within the next few years to fight for this great country. This is the best country in the world and to serve a place that lets us do pretty much anything we want, when we want is incredible. I’ll sum this all up here.
My name is Mitch, and I love sports and everything that revolves around them (drinking). Now that I have access to real writing material I’ll be putting out lot of content. I am an American soldier, that loves a beer and a good time as much as the next guy, and I love my Wisconsin teams. I can’t wait to start putting more content out and I’m excited for y’all to be along for the ride.
Go USA and always have fun,
